For fifty years the Belin Arts Scholarship has funded the noble arts of painting, sculpture, photography, music, drama, dance, literature, and architecture, helping to bring success to the fortunate recipients, as well as joy to an appreciative public.

James J. Peck

James J. Peck

When James J. Peck received the Belin Scholarship award he founded Nutshell Masks and Theater which created and toured a mask-dance show, “Carnival of the Animals,” to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the Eugene Symphony, the Rogue Valley Symphony, Oregon Stage Works and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival where he has worked as an actor for 19 years. Today, James continues to work as an actor, teaches mask work and stage combat, builds masks and performs in them.

Pamela Parsons

Pamela Parsons

Pamela Parsons is a Marywood University faculty member and a contemporary artist who remains narrative and representational. She creates from her studio in Maine where she focuses on working waterfront backdrops, seaside weather and light influences, still life and animal life. Pamela’s work has been accepted into many juried shows, including the 2002, 2003 and 2004 Phillips Mill Juried Show framed division where she won the Best Impressionist Landscape Award.

Roosevelt Newson

Roosevelt Newson

Pianist Roosevelt Newson studied at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and the Juilliard School in New York City after graduating from Southern University in Baton Rouge, where he received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in musical arts. Since receiving his Belin Scholarship he was able to pursue a career as a professional concert pianist for several years. His performances include the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Philharmonic and the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, to name a few.

Karl Neuroth

Karl Neuroth

Karl Neuroth is a retired professor of fine arts and an extraordinary printmaker. He currently resides in Clarks Green, Pennsylvania where he continues to create in his studio. Karl’s most recent work places emphasis upon flat, linear patterns and exuberant color. His works are in private collections throughout the country, as well as on display in the Everhart Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Robert Miller

Robert Miller

Dr. Robert Miller is a concert pianist and distinguished professor of music at East Stroudsburg University. Robert has performed all over the world. The Belin Scholarship sponsored his solo debut recital at Carnegie Hall. Shortly thereafter, Robert gave his debut European recital at the Salle Cortot in Paris. Robert is also the founder and artistic director of the Carter Chamber Music Series.

Joseph Mendla

Joseph Mendla

An artist actively involved in making sculpture, Joseph Mendla has exhibited, taught, lectured, directed an art gallery, designed, built and operated a commercial art foundry, helped create an art school and has served on the boards of others. His distinguished career got a jumpstart with the award of the Belin Scholarship, allowing him to purchase the materials to create a large outdoor sculpture. The very next year Joseph won a lucrative Best in Show award for that piece, helping him move into new creative arenas.

Mark Chuck

Mark Chuck

Sculptor Mark Chuck conveys a window into aquatic life with his handcrafted pieces. He meticulously places each element of each sculpture in such a way that tells a tale of underwater life. Mark received his Belin award following his graduation from college where he majored in ceramics. Mark believes that the award has greatly aided in his local and regional recognition as a ceramic artist.

Charlene Marcinko

Charlene Marcinko

Mezzo-soprano Charlene Marcinko showcases her gift in many concerts and churches, including St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Her exquisite voice took its wings in opera during her early training at The Washington Opera at Kennedy Center, Aspen Opera Theater, and The Pittsburgh Opera Center.

Charlene received her B.A. degree in voice and flute from Peabody Conservatory, and her M.M. degree in voice from Boston University. In addition to performing, Charlene also teaches at the Henry Street Music School and the St. James School.

Judith Levy

Judith Levy

Judith Levy’s artists’ book shows, print exhibits, photo exhibits and artwork have been on display all across the country as well as in Spain. Her distinguished career took flight with the creation of an artist’s book entitled “Shadow Traffic.” Produced from the proceeds of the Belin Scholarship, the book gained Judith wide recognition. Today the book is part of the holdings of The Museum of Modern Art and a number of other significant collections.

Earl Lehman

Earl Lehman

Earl Lehman’s landscapes and abstract imagery are collected widely. A rostered artist with the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, Arts in Education program since 1989, Earl has conducted residencies and taught otherwise throughout the Commonwealth at the elementary, intermediate, middle, high school, university and adult levels. A longtime participant in the Arts Alive program as a painting instructor, he also currently serves as a member of the training team for new artists and teachers throughout NEIU 19.
